Remote Teaching
Thank you for visiting my website! Allow me to tell you a bit about myself. I have come a long way from having cooking parties for my friends to now being able to cook for clients and teach children, teens, and adults. I take pride in making recipes from scratch to deliver an authentic, flavorful dish and sharing all I have learned with others. When people ask what kind of food I like to cook, I consider myself a versatile chef with a varying recipe log and love for farm to table. I appreciate food from all cultures and connecting with people through our appetites.
After obtaining double honors and associate degrees in both Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management and Accounting from Westchester Community College, Personal Plates, LLC was formed in 2018. The first In-Home Experience event began with a phone call from a host who wanted to enjoy her event with her family instead of having to tend to the BBQ grill. Since then, services have grown to include tapas, buffet, family, and plated style servings. Events to date include baby showers, engagement, and birthday celebrations to name a few.
The next step for Personal Plates was the addition of Culinary Proficiency Classes. I began at St. Christopher’s Inc. as a volunteer instructor then later contracted for 2 years (until the COVID-19 pandemic began). Through this life skills program for young adults, the students of varying developmental and behavioral capabilities were able to learn how to cook in a home-styled kitchen in preparation to living on their own. Another school program I participated in, called Curious-on-Hudson, directed their focus to middle school aged children to develop their skills at a younger age. It truly was a pleasure seeing the children create dishes every week and the happiness and pride they get from enjoying the flavors of their labor. Despite not being able to teach in large groups since the COVID-19 restrictions began, I resourcefully resorted to the internet and began hosting remote cooking classes. This has become a great tool to continue my mission to help others through food and teaching.
Another service that has become popular is called Date Night In which began with a desire to provide a moment of intimacy for busy parents like myself. It has turned a ‘simple night in’ into a candlelit romantic dinner for two (or 4) complete with décor to set the mood. Being able to be apart of a celebration of love is particularly special for me, especially when the hosts mention not being able to get a sitter and missing out on their special time together, a situation I understand well.
So much had changed in 2022, including the addition of my baby girl. Navigating the world of small business ownership with a new baby and family has presented many challenges, and I am very grateful to all of those who not only encouraged my efforts, but also supported my business. I was so happy to add on-site cooking classes and provide a much needed service to Dutchess County. Currently, a monthly calendar is created offering different class themes and varying recipes. I do my best to listen to the public and provide the classes that are requested.
Much lies ahead for Personal Plates in 2023. In addition to the public cooking classes, in-home services are still available on the weekends, as well as remote classes during the week. I am currently planning my first cooking camp, which may have a few learning curves and I thank all the parents ahead of time for giving me the chance to grow. I am very eager to teach and encourage beginner chefs on their path to culinary skill development. I am
Being able to adapt in the culinary world and making it my own through Personal Plates, LLC has truly become a business I am grateful to have created. As a single member small business owner who is also a mother and wife, it is not always easy doing this business I love so much! I wear many hats yet try my best to dedicate myself to each client and student, and although I may make mistakes or events may happen that are beyond my control, please know it is my goal with every event to provide the best service with a delicious outcome. I appreciate being able to provide meals to those who are creating memories or helping others learn how to cook for themselves and loved ones. Thank you to those who have inspired me along the way. I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead!
